It wouldn’t be right to start anywhere else.

Anybody that knows me well knows that I am a bit of a momma’s boy. My mom is my best friend.

Sorry to do you dirty Jason

My mom (Andrea McAvoy) is originally from the northeast, Vermont specifically. She blessed me with some of her athleticism, as she was a soccer and track athlete back in her hay-day. She graduated from the University of Vermont, where she met my dad. She was a PT out of school, and worked out of college in the heart of Boston. Hearing all of her stories is a huge part in why I want to end up in Boston one day.

If there is one thing my mom taught me, it was how to care and love other people. For a long time, she volunteered on the committee for the local food bank, and would frequently bring in my brother and I to help stock shelves and other things. At the time, I didn’t think much of it, but now I am proud to know that my mom had a great impact on many in the local community. She still helps run the Patrick Ryan Gay Memorial tournament each year, and has a bunch of kiddos that she teaches for preschool now. Quite frankly, she is a bit of a superhero.

I don’t think I truly had an appreciation for all the things my mom did for me until I left for college. I was a kid that liked to keep to myself, even from my parents, and for a long time that kept me from being as close with my mother as I am now. Since freshman year, I began to open up, and now I tell her everything. A few phone calls a week and at least a text a day, I constantly know that my mom is there for me if I need it.

My mom loves Nationals baseball, walks with her friends, and shopping at Trader Joe’s. She’s an expert at coming up with family trips, whether to the beach or to a country concert. She enjoys reading and listening to podcasts, and I always like getting a good recommendation from her.

For 21 years, she’s put up with a household of boys only, and that in itself, deserves an award. Love you momma!
